What is the secret to a successful practice?

I wish I could tell you about some amazing strategy I have created to help my practice be successful. I could give you a 5 step program, write a book, and sell it for millions. But, the secret to my practice growth has not been a program or a special formula.

The secret to practice success is answering the phone.

Yes, it is that simple. Phone rings, you answer it live. Not after the fact, not a voice message, but a live voice offering hope and direction for potential clients.

Over the past month I have been trying to schedule an appointment with a mental health professional. I have called this particular place 4 times with no live answers. I leave messages and get a call back days later. When you are needing someone, waiting days is not in the cards. In fact, I ended up scheduling with the counselor who got back to me the fastest and offered the soonest appointment.

While doing an intake for a new client at my own practice, I asked the man, “What made you pick Waters Edge Counseling?” His response, “Because you answered the phone and were able to schedule an appointment. I have called 3-4 other places in which only 2 have called back and that was days later. The other places have not called back at all.”

He scheduled an intake appointment because we answered the phone.

Think about the revenue from one client. For example, if this man continues therapy for 12 appointments, that is $1,560 ($130/session). After paying the clinician who sees him, taxes, expenses, it is safe to say the practice would profit around $500 ($40-$50/session). This is all from answering one call live. Image if that was 2-3 people per week. That would be $1500! You get the point. Lots of money coming into the practice from a simple task.

Do you answer calls live or have someone who does? How often do you miss calls? How much revenue could you be losing in your practice?

SEO encompasses multiple items on your website. But, one of the most important ones is blogging. Through consistent and effective blogging, you can grow your SEO by leaps and bounds. But, it needs to be done right.
